Nick Cannon thinks Mariah Carey was 'flustered' during NYE show

Mariah Carey's former partner Nick Cannon believes the singer became "flustered" when she suffered now infamous technical problems during a recent New Year's Eve show.

The US star left the stage early during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest at New York's Times Square as her in-ear monitors apparently failed, while it also raised allegations of lip-synching.

Speaking on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Cannon joked that he thought it was a conspiracy theory created by the government, before sympathising with Carey's plight. He said:

"I'm a conspiracy theorist. I think the government did that. They set her up. That was a distraction.

"Anyone who knows about performing [knows that] things like that can go wrong on live television. I do live television all the time; I screw up on America's Got Talent all the time, so when there are people in your ear saying things and stuff, I think she got a little flustered."

Carey took to Twitter after the performance to suggest that producers of the show wanted to "humiliate" her by continuing to broadcast the show despite the problems.
