Drum kit used by The Beatles to go up for auction

The drum kit used by The Beatles on 'Love Me Do' is being put up for auction

It has been reported that Nate D. Auctions will sell the kit on Thursday, January 26 and bidding will start at $75,000 (£60,598).

Drummer Ringo Starr didn't play the kit for this particular recording and session musician Andy White filled in, so White's name is on the kit along with the band's logo and the name of the company that made the it (Ludwig).

It was recently revealed that Sir Paul McCartney has filed a lawsuit against label executives at Sony/ATV in order to regain rights to The Beatles' extensive back catalogue. Sony issued a statement on the news, which reads:

"We have collaborated closely with both Sir Paul and the late John Lennon’s Estate for decades to protect, preserve and promote the catalog’s long-term value. We are disappointed that they have filed this lawsuit which we believe is both unnecessary and premature."
