Rag'n'Bone Man praises Laura Mvula on her innovative songwriting

Rag’n’Bone Man, real name Rory Graham, has revealed that the "fickle" nature of the music industry is incredibly disappointing.

During a new interview for The Guardian, he explained that longevity is something that can't really be a goal because the way music works right now is on a flavour of the month basis: "It’s not easy to have longevity these days. The music industry’s the most fickle it has ever been."

He then addressed the talented Laura Mvula's recent announcement about being dropped from her record label, Sony, and said: "It’s brutal. I just heard that Laura Mvula got dropped by her label. She put it on Twitter, and I was like: I can’t believe it. I think she’s one of the most innovative songwriters and artists of the moment. She’s by far my favourite songwriter in the UK at the moment. I mean, I’m on a Sony label, but I’m not going to stick up for Sony doing that because I think it’s ridiculous. It’s just weird how success is measured."

He also joked about the concentrated nature of the industry and confessed that doing so many interviews on the same day can seem a little contrived: "Nine interviews in a day, one after the other, same questions. You can see how artists can become really self-centred, in a way, because you end up talking about yourself so much.”
