The Teenage Cancer Trust has slammed secondary resale sites

The Teenage Cancer Trust has slammed secondary resale sites for re-selling tickets to Ed Sheeran's upcoming gig for the charity at much higher prices than face value.

Sheeran is set to perform a one-off show at London's Royal Albert Hall on March 28, but tickets for the concert sold out within minutes and have since appeared on secondary websites for up to £5,000.

A statement has been shared by the Teenage Cancer Trust, which reads: "Tickets for Ed Sheeran’s show for us at the Royal Albert Hall show sold out in record time. We’re so disappointed when fans and supporters of our work miss out on getting tickets. Ed Sheeran usually plays venues much larger than the Royal Albert Hall and demand for these tickets were way and above the Hall’s capacity."

"We are extremely grateful to Ed Sheeran for giving his time to play a gig for us, and to all the fans and supporters who managed to buy a ticket. All of the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall gigs are raising much needed funds to help make sure young people don’t face cancer alone."

The statement references the Fanfair Alliance, which is an organisation that campaigns to battle ticket touting:

"There is a wider issue around the secondary ticketing market and we firmly believe the only people who should profit from Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall are young people with cancer. That’s why we actively support the Fanfair Alliance, which was set up by members of the music industry to campaign for action to tackle unfair ticket touting."

"We are also doing our part by introducing additional measures like limiting the number of tickets people can buy, and requiring photo ID to enter the concert. ID will be rigorously checked and anyone with tickets purchased on the secondary market will not be admitted."
