Crystal Bowersox's debut outsells American Idol's winner's album

Crystal Bowersox, who came second in season 9 of American Idol, has beaten winner Lee DeWyze in the album sales race after her debut record sold more copies than his in its opening week.

Bowersox's 'Farmer's Daughter' shifted 19,000 more copies than DeWyze's 'Live It Up', which only achieved sales of 58,000 copies in its first week.

In comparison to previous winners and contestants these figures are seemingly low as season 2's winner Clay Aiken sold 613,000 copies of his debut release whilst Adam Lambert, season 8's runner up, managed an impressive 198,000 sales.
