The Charlatans' drummer to return for New Year's gig

Rockers The Charlatans are pleased to announce that their original drummer will return to their line up for the band's special New Year's Eve performance.

Percussionist Jon Brookes was forced to stop playing in September after his diagnosis with cancer and Friday night's (December 31) Edinburgh gig for Concert In The Gardens will mark his return.

The band's front man, Tim Burgess, spoke about their collective excitement at Brookes' return in an interview with Daily Record:

"Jon is doing really well. I texted him last night and he said he had got the all-clear and the cancer is gone. It's really crazy what happened."

"It still doesn't feel that real to us. Obviously, it does to him. It's amazing and a big deal to be asked to play what is the biggest party of the year. It means we're going to end the year in style."
