Nirvana exhibit set to open

A brand new exhibition is set to open in Seattle next month that is entirely centered around the internationally acclaimed grunge band Nirvana.

Items that will be on display at 'Nirvana: Taking Punk To The Masses' include pieces of the first guitar, a 'Univox Hi-Flyer', that Kurt Cobain smashed, his famous yellow cardigan and handwritten lyrics to the songs 'Spank Thru' and 'Floyd The Barber'.

Krist Novoselic, Nirvana's bassist, explained that having this exhibition in the band's hometown is such a great honour:

"It’s great that there will soon be a collection that celebrates [Cobain’s] contribution to music and culture."

"There’s a story with Nirvana at its centre, but it’s a story that also includes the many people, bands and institutions that make up a music community."

The exhibition, which was first announced at the end of last year, is set to run from April 16-22 at Seattle's Experience Music Project, and coincidentally Nirvana's rare EP 'Hormoaning' will be re-released on April 16 for Record Store Day.
