Pete Doherty's absence at Libertines documentary premiere

The Libertines opened the East End Film Festival in London last night, April 27, with an exclusive screening and premiere of their documentary style movie 'The Libertines - There Are No Innocent Bystanders', but band member Pete Doherty failed to attend.

The event took place at The Troxy, and Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell turned up to unveil the exciting project, but their frontman was notably absent. The film-maker, Roger Sargent, explained that Doherty found the footage "very emotional and kind of difficult to watch".

Sargent added:

"It's the first time you'll ever be able to see the truth really. Certainly with Pete it's just been lies until this film - he's been demonised and projected as some kind of villain in a horror film almost, and it's not really like that."
