Last night, May 25, the new American Idol winner was crowned. 

Although the final episode is yet to air in the UK, news broke last night that country singer Scotty McCreery from North Carolina scooped the title after battling it out against the equally powerful vocalist, Lauren Alaina.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that a male contestant has won the exciting competition as the last female to win the hearts and full support of the USA was Jordin Sparks back in 2007. 

17-year-old McCreery performed 'Live Like You Were Dying' alongside Tim McGraw and the show was packed with other A-list appearances including one from Beyoncé who debuted a piano driven track entitled '1+1', which will feature on her upcoming album '4'.
