Blur's Damon Albarn talks about his opera 'Doctor Dee'

Blur's Damon Albarn has opened up about his brand new opera, 'Doctor Dee', which is about the life of a 16th Century scientist, and confirmed that he will appear it in although he definitely won't be wearing "a ruff and tights".

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today Show this morning, June 7, Albarn revealed that he feels very in tune with the content of the production and is excited about the project:

"I've got a really strange emotional connection - it really gets to me, that haunted, magical England. It's something that really stirs me in an irrational way."

He also expressed how he felt a need to tell Dee's story, adding:

"It's just amazing how much colour there is in his ideas. Just imagine the English now if we had kept that spirit in our hearts."
