U2 protesters foiled

Protestors who yesterday threatened to picket U2’s headlining set at Glastonbury were foiled by security.

Activists from the group Art Uncut tried to put up an inflatable banner during the band’s opening song as a protest against U2’s alleged tax dodge, but were stopped by a festival security team.

The band went on to play a hit-drenched set to match the torrential rain hailing down on the crowd. Bono thanked the crowd for their “patience” after they were forced to drop their slot last year when the singer injured his back.

Protesters are targeting the group over allegations that they moved their business out of Ireland in order to avoid higher taxes.
