Ne-Yo decided to celebrate Independence Day by paying respect to American troops and held a free concert for them in New York. 

Although the gig was two days early, on July 2, the 'Miss Independent' singer performed for members of the armed forces at Fort Hamilton in New York state to thank them for their undeniable honour and hard work. 

He spoke to the crowd during his set, and said:

"It’s something that we were trying to put together for a little while. Just a way for me to show my appreciation for what it is that the troops do. I’m out here supporting the people who support me, and my free way of life. I’m happy to be here.”

"Keep your heads up, and know that people back here at home are missing you everyday and praying for you everyday…hurry up and come on back.”
