Lady Gaga made an honorary citizen of Australia

Pop icon Lady Gaga has been made an honorary citizen of Sydney, Australia as a result of her "unwavering support" for the LGBT community.

The singer was in Sydney yesterday, July 11, and wrote a message to fans on her Twitter account that hinted she would pay surprise visits to nightclubs Nevermind and Arq. She was then given a tour of the City and Lord Mayor Clover Moore said:

"Lady Gaga has been a powerful force for the gay and lesbian community in Sydney, and we have a rare honour for people whose achievements embrace the ideals and spirit of our city -- the title of 'Honorary citizen of Sydney',"

"I am extending that honour to Lady Gaga."
