Joss Stone discusses new album, ‘LP1’

Joss Stone said she enjoyed the “freedom” of recording her fifth-studio album, ‘LP1’.

The British songstress will release her new album through her own label, Stone’d Records in partnership with indie label Surfdog Records since leaving EMI last year. She recorded the album in just one week in Nashville.

In an interview, she said: "I never made like a conscious effort to make an album. I just happened to do it because [my producer] called up and was like, 'Hey, come play.' So I did. And we ended up with an album, which is quite handy. I like that freedom and I enjoy just not having to always organize what's going to happen next. It's fun that way."

She revealed that her new sound is a break from her usual sound and has a bit of a rock edge.

"I've never done anything rock-y before. I don't feel like it sounds country but I feel like it sounds Nashville-y. That twang. It definitely doesn't sound English, [but] it's definitely still soulful," she said.

‘LP1,’ is due in stores July 26.
