Jamie Cullum 'wasn't cruel enough' during Must Be The Music

Jazz star Jamie Cullum has revealed that he thinks his television series Must Be The Music didn't do as well as he had hoped because "it wasn't cruel enough".

The talented musician starred on the show back in 2010 as a judge, but unfortunately a second series wasn't commissioned and he thinks it's due to the fact that they didn't play up to the 'human interest' element that reality television thrives on:

"Not enough people watched it. Maybe it wasn't cruel enough. The inherent drama in those shows is the human interest element - when you see people with their screws loose getting pushed around by people who should know better."

"That's what's enjoyable about those shows, no matter how much we don't want to admit it. There wasn't much of that in Must Be The Music."

He added to London's Metro newspaper, "It was trying to find a different type of act but those shows are so ingrained in our culture if one deviates from the format people say: 'That's not how it's supposed to be.'"

He is currently promoting a contest in association with Pizza Express called The Big Audition, which you can find more about here:
