James Morrison can't wait to unveil his new album and finally steer himself away from the label of "pop star" bestowed upon him by Polydor. 

His new record, 'The Awakening', is due for release on September 26 and can't come soon enough for the 'You Give Me Something' singer who explained to the Daily Star that he's keen to shed his old image:

"Polydor did a lot of great things, but I was in this box marked ‘pop star’ and a new record label emphasises that I’m different this time."

He added that his sophomore offering, 'Songs For You, Truths For Me', was rushed and didn't turn out as he had originally hoped, and that he isn't overly fond of his popular collaboration with Nelly Furtado on 'Broken Strings':

“I was under pressure from my record label not to make it too different from my ­debut because that had sold so well. It was rushed, and I ­hated making it. I hate wet music, but that’s what I’ve been ­accused of making."

“It’s '[Broken Strings' ft. Nelly Furtado] far from my favourite song, because it’s not got as much feeling as my best ones.”
