After saying wife Sara MacDonald "really doesn't like" his new solo project", Noel Gallagher says she is responsible for his decision to launch a solo career because he was ''annoying'' her by being at home so much.

The former Oasis guitarist took a break from music after quitting the band in 2009, but decided to get right back to it.

He said in an interview: "I was in a band, right? And I left. And then I wrote some songs. I had a lot of songs left over from the band. And then I wrote some other songs. And after a couple of years sitting 'round the house, I had a baby. Moved house. My wife decided it was time for me to do something because I was annoying her."

Gallagher and MacDonald married in June 2011 and have two sons, three-year-old Donovan and 10-month-old Sonny.

Noel recently admitted that starting a musical career without his former Oasis bandmates - brother Liam, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, all of whom are now in Beady Eye - is a daunting prospect.

Speaking about his new project, 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds', he said: "They're a collective more than a band. Anyone can join and anyone can leave. I was sat in bed one night before I got my band together. I said to my wife, 'It's just dawned on me, I've got to find five other people. I won't know their wives or girlfriends, or mates, and I've got to share a tour bus with them.'

"It's like giving up drugs and moving on to a new circle of friends."

His debut solo album 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' is out in October and his tour starts the same month.
