Jay-Z and Kanye West to give surprise performance at MTV VMAs

Jay-Z and Kanye West, the hip hop duo who recently released collaborative album 'Watch the Throne', are set to give a surprise performance at tonight's MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.

According to E! Online's Marc Malkin, the seating arrangement at the Nokia Theatre has no placards for Jay-Z or Kanye, suggesting the high profile pair will perform and possibly open the show.

The record debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling almost half a million copies during its first week of release. It also produced two high charting singles - 'Otis', and 'H*A*M'.

Previously announced performers for tonight's VMA's include Lady Gaga, Adele, Chris Brown and Young The Giant. The evening will also include tributes to pop superstar Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse, who tragically died at her home in north London last month.

Jay-Z and Kanye West are set to promote 'Watch the Throne' on a U.S tour kicking off in October 2011.
