One Direction forced to broadcast live on Radio 1 from a secret location

Boyband One Direction were due to appear live on air during the UK Top 40 last night (September 18), but the sheer amount of fans that turned up to support them caused the broadcast to be moved to a different location.

The X Factor stars scored their first No.1 yesterday with 'What Makes You Beautiful', but the potential breach of health and safety regulations at the BBC'S Radio 1 headquarters meant that the show aired from another studio.

Writing to their followers on Twitter, the group apologised for the last minute change but thanked everyone for turning up in support of their debut single:

"Hey everyone unfortunatly we can't come to radio1 due to health and safety sorry to everyone who is waiting massive thank you for doing so. We will still be live on radio one so tune in and have a listen once again very sorry."

An official statement from Radio 1 explained the situation further:

"Radio 1 and the police felt it was safer for the young listeners as well as the band if the interview was moved to a secret location."
