Cheryl Cole's brief appearance on The X Factor USA was praised by critics

Cheryl Cole's brief appearance on the first episode of The X Factor USA have been praised by critics.

The most successful member of Girls Aloud was famously booted from her position as judge on Simon Cowell's show to be replaced with Pussycat Doll singer, Nicole Scherzinger

Cole appears in the first episode of the series, which launched on American television last night, and critics wrote today that the Geordie singer had potential.

In the New York Times, they wrote:

"In the premiere (Cole) just kind of disappears mid show, without much explanation, and suddenly Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls is in her chair. It's a downgrade. Ms Cole showed glimmers of being interesting; in two seasons as a judge on The Sing-Off on NBC, Ms Scherzinger was a pretty face but, judicially speaking, not much more than a seat warmer."

Ben Grossman, the editor-in-chief of Broadcasting & Cable, tweeted:

"Cheryl Cole will end up a TV star in America, it's just a matter of time. If I'm an agent or exec, I'd be finding a vehicle for her now."
