Musicians and fans react to REM's split

REM announced yesterday that after 31 years, they have decided to call it a day

REM and RIP REM are currently trending on Twitter as fans celebrate the band that brought us 'Everybody Hurts' and 'Losing My Religion'.

The iconic band influenced so many musicians, including Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay, during their career that spanned over three decades and produced 15 albums.

Zane Lowe wrote:

"REM never dumbed down. Look at the bands they influenced... The Smiths, Radiohead, Nirvana and so on. And they end with dignity. Most won't."

One Republic tweeted:

The Strokes and The Futureheads simply tweeted:

"RIP REM"
