Kreayshawn: "I'm just being me"

Oakland MC Kreayshawn has opened up about her unique sense of style and how it reflects her music.

Her debut offering, 'Gucci Gucci', became a viral sensation and since its release has notched up over 18 million views on YouTube, but Kreayshawn (born Natassia Zolot) believes her look is just as important as her sound.

Speaking exclusively to Billboard.com, the young star helped launch the site's new Style Council feature and explained that while she's inspired by others she likes to march to the beat of her own drum:

"I look to the old school a lot. Some old school Madonna for sure. But as far as anything current I think I'm just doing my own thing."

Kreayshawn, who is heavily tattooed, talked Billboard through her array of body art and revealed that "a lot of tattoos I just get when I'm really high". On her arm she has an orange popsicle, an image of Daisy Duck holding a gun and a partially eaten chicken wing:

"We were doing a photo shoot and one of the guys with us in Paris did tattoos, and I was like, you should tattoo me while I do the photo shoot! I couldn't think of anything at the time but a chicken wing. Aint no thang but a chicken wang."

During a recent interview with Complex magazine, on which she graced the cover, she added:

“I never looked at myself as a marketable person. I just try to let my personality shine through. Do you think a 16-year-old girl gives a fuck about where I’m from or what I’ve done? No, she loves the songs. People say, ‘You’re changing the game". I’m just being me. This is what I’ve been doing.”
