RGBeats - Painting to music. Is that a thing?

“Painting to music. Is that a thing?”

RGBeats.com is a colourful new website that encourages everyone to paint or draw to any song, album or artist on repeat.

The Idea

What you create is driven by the music you are listening to. As well as having something to stick on the kitchen fridge, those who submit pictures of their work will also be exhibited in digital form on RGBeats.com.

Plenty of artists listen to music as they create but you don’t have to consider yourself an artist to indulge in putting paint to paper with a couple of beats at hand.

It is expected that RGBeats.com will have a collective exhibition, displaying a number of the works submitted before the end of the year.

The Paintings:

Jay-Z/Linkin Park – 99 Problems

One of the stand-out paintings on the website to date was created listening to the instantly recognisable “99 Problems” by Jay – Z/Linkin Park (see painting above).

RGBeats founder, Karen Howley, listened to the track for over an hour on repeat to create a comical abstract painting that really picks up on the song’s essence.

“It was a real exercise in perseverance. My friend requested me paint her something using the RGBeats concept. I’m not the biggest fan of that song and as I listened to it more and more the strokes became quite angry! But I was having fun all the time I was doing it,” says Karen.

Music, whether instrumentally or lyrically driven, is effective in evoking feelings in us. If we respond to it with a paint brush in our hands, the results are exciting and surprising. Everyone is an artist at RGBeats.com.
