Matt Cardle "battered" his integrity by appearing on The X Factor

Matt Cardle has admitted that taking part in 2010's season of The X Factor "battered" his integrity. 

Speaking exclusively to Music Week, the 'Run For Your Life' singer explained that he risked a lot to appear as a contestant on the competition and feels as though he almost sacrificed his credibility:

"It was so important I was honest with Chris [Briggs, Sony A&R] about keeping my integrity intact, even though I battered the hell out of it on The X Factor."

"But I think a little bit of it remained somehow and I wanted to keep hold of that and build on that and write an album I would have written anyway. I'm really proud of it. I just pray to God it bridges the gap between X Factor contestant and true singer/songwriter."

Cardle also announced last night, September 27, that he will perform as a musical guest on the new series of The X Factor on October 9. Watch his new video for 'Run For Your Life' below:
