Arista, Jive and J Records to close in the US

Record labels Arista, Jive and J Records are set to close in the US.

The RCA-owned label currently carries the likes of Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Jennifer Hudson and Outkast and they once looked after Backstreet Boys, N' Sync, Five and Avril Lavigne

All of the artists signed to these labels will be moved to RCA Records, which belongs to Sony.

The president of the label, Tom Corson, said:

"The path we’ve taken is to refresh RCA, so we're going to retire those brands. There may be a reason down the line to bring them back, but it's a clean slate here."

He went on to say that the artists are supportive of the move:

"The artists have all been supportive. We didn’t make this move without consulting our artists, and we haven’t had any push-back. Frankly, they’re the brand. We’re defined by our artists."

Check out two of the most successful songs to come from these labels, 'Baby One More Time' by Britney Spears and 'I Believe I Can Fly' by R.Kelly:
