Clubbing Institution Back To Basics Celebrates 20 Years at the Forefront of Club Culture

The UK underground club scene is about to witness something never to have been achieved before in the history of club culture as clubbing institution, Back to Basics, celebrates its 20th Birthday at Stinky’s Peephouse in Leeds on 26th November, making it the longest running weekly party the world has ever seen.

Recognised as one of the best nights out in the UK, Leeds’s legendary club Back to Basics and its promoter Dave Beer, have come to represent a cultural phenomenon that has helped to seed and develop club culture in the UK. Inspired by the motto Two steps further than any other fucker, the Basics crew has continued to secure its position at the forefront of club culture for an impressive twenty years with its top line-ups, unique aura and intimate atmosphere.

To celebrate its biggest milestone to date, Basics will throw a ‘20 Years of Acid House’ party over three rooms at the three storey 700 capacity Stinky’s Peephouse. The venue, which boasts an outdoor terrace, will be transformed into an old skool rave where everyone will be encouraged to come in their best old skool raving outfits!

Headlining this very special night is the notorious Todd Terry who’ll play a momentous acid house birthday set. His services to dance music have spanned two decades and as one of the most celebrated figures in dance music, he is the ultimate Basics birthday guest DJ.

One aspect that Back To Basics is most infamous for is its resident DJs, some whom have played at the club since its opening in 1991. The birthday party is no different with a horde of them turning out sets for the night. These include Ralph Lawson (2020 Vision), original Basic’s resident, Huggy, Burnski (Real Tone), Chemical Brothers’ tour DJ, James Holroyd , Tristan Da Cunha (Throwing Shapes), and original Hacienda DJ Buckley.

No Basics birthday party would be complete without a set from its outrageous promoter Dave Beer, who has crafted Basics into what it is today. Dave commented:

"Basics for me has been a continuous 20 year party - a roller coaster ride with highs and lows, which I wouldn't change for the world apart from still having my best friend and cofounder of Basics, Ali Cooke, still with us to celebrate this party. The mad thing is we only intended it to last 2 months nor did we expect it to become a full time career, we initially started this cause there was no clubs like it in our area."

Also joining the evening’s shenanigans are Mr Nice – the infamous dope smuggler Howard Marks, andMr Nasty aka the insane Pritch from Dirty Sanchez, who’ll head up their own room dubbed the Welsh House Mafia.

A ticket to the Basics 20th Birthday Party is without doubt the hottest ticket in town and the brand’sinspiration of the screaming wild punk ideology, Let’s have it right off, will be in full flow on the night. Dig out your white gloves, baggy t-shirts and dungarees and come and enjoy the music.  After all, a night of fun and quality music is what Basics is all about…
