Noel Gallagher has filed a legal complaint against brother Liam, claiming that his former Oasis bandmate attacked him with a guitar.

As reported by London's Evening Standard newspaper, the 44-year-old also accused Liam Gallagher of insulting his wife and "disrupting" a number of the band's gigs.

The 14-page document was filed by Noel at the High Court in London in retort to libel claims lodged by Liam, which addressed their missed appearance at the V Festival in 2009.

Noel, who has been enjoying a successful start to his solo career, also called his brother "spiteful and childish" in the papers.

Speaking about the case, Liam's spokesman said:

"The matter is now in the hands of lawyers."
