Nirvana to re-release classic track as Christmas No.1 competition hots up

Nirvana are set to officially re-release their classic track 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' in an effort to boost the fan-led campaign to see the song become this year's Christmas No.1 single.

A post on the grunge band's official Facebook announced that Nirvana are set to bring out a limited edition 7" version of the song as the competition for the Christmas No.1 accolade hots up. It said:

"We've heard about the campaign to get 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana For Christmas No.1 in the UK (supporting the children's charity Rhythmix)... and yes, it looks like the label will re-release the single 7" as a limited edition for the fans!"

According to bookmaker William Hill, Nirvana are currently third favourite to hit the top spot, with the Military Wives Choir leading the way with odds of 8/13, whilst of the winner of this year's X Factor are second favourite.

Other entries in with a shout include the cast of The Only Way Is Essex at 16/1, The Wombles at 20/1 and One Direction, who are a long shot at 33/1.
