HMV apologises for Amelia Lily 'winner' slip up

Yesterday, the music retailer HMV accidentally revealed talented singer Amelia Lily as the winner of 2011's X Factor and a spokesperson for the company has now explained the slip up.

A page appeared on Tuesday afternoon, December 6, announcing the pink-haired vocalist as the winner of this year's season and the accident sparked a phenomenal amount of speculation over show fixing, and the incident even made it into the top ten trending topics list on Twitter.

Now Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV, has admitted it was simply an unfortunate mistake and the nature of the internet meant that people saw it before it was deleted:

"Hmv.com was looking to accept customer pre-orders for versions of the X Factor winner's single recorded by each of the three finalists."

"However, due to a technical issue only Amelia Lily's details were uploaded. These have been temporarily removed so that all three finalists details can go up at the same time. This has been the result of an unforeseen but regrettable technical issue, for which we apologise and ask that nothing further be construed."
