Selena Gomez axes gigs after her mother suffers a miscarriage

Disney superstar Selena Gomez cancelled two concerts over the weekend after her mother suffered a miscarriage.

The teen sensation was delighted at the prospect of becoming a big sister to the baby and once the pregnancy was confirmed she even wrote a message on Twitter (November 25) and attached a photograph of her mother and stepfather:

"Momma and (stepfather) Brian are finally letting me share the news. My mommys carrying my baby brother or sister. I'm the happiest girl in the world."

She was due to perform in Chicago at the B96 Jingle Bash on Saturday, December 17 and then at Seattle's 106.1 KISS FM's Jingle Bell Bash on Sunday, December 18 but axed both shows following the devastating news.

A representative for the pop star confirmed that the last minute cancellations were down to a "family emergency" and later revealed that Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, had in fact lost the baby.
