Morrissey 'honoured beyond words' to receive PETA award

Morrissey has revealed his honour at being crowned People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' UK Person of the Year.

The iconic musician, well-known for his enthusiastic, strict and continued support of animal rights, was awarded the impressive title by PETA during the final week of 2011 and has since written a letter of thanks to the organisation, in which he praised their ongoing work:

"I am honoured beyond words to be named as Peta's Person of the Year! Higher praise is hard to come by! I make no sensational claims for myself... I simply say 'No' to any form of animal suffering, and to the execution of innocent beings. Peta remains indefatigable and visionary, and together we have the executioners on the run."

He famously made headlines back in July 2011 after declaring that a Belgian Festival he was confirmed to perform at was to go meat-free for the day he was on site.
