Pop superstar Katy Perry has cancelled what would have been her first public appearance since announcing her split and subsequent divorce from husband Russell Brand. 

The 'Teenage Dream' sensation was due to attend the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday, January 11 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, but has now confirmed via Twitter that she won't be turning up to the star-studded event after all:

"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS"

26-year-old Perry is up for a phenomenal 7 prizes, including Favourite TV Guest Star for her cameo on How I Met Your Mother, Favourite Pop Artist and Favourite Music Video for 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)'.
