BBC Sound of 2012's Michael Kiwanuka: "I'm not really a natural showman"

BBC Sound of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka has admitted that he's not much a natural showman.

The singer songwriter told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he isn't really much of a front man - but he loves playing live music.

He said he gets lost in the songs through the emotion that is flowing through his music - but when asked if he was a "natural showman", the rising star replied:

"Not really. I didn't necessarily want to be at the front of the stage. What I do love...I love music so much and you can experience emotion through music when you write your own music and sing your own music. Because I love playing and singing those songs - believe in them – I guess it's easier to watch as I am not uncomfortable, I am lost in the music. If I was to get up there and do stand up or just show off, I would run away and hide. The music helps me through it."

Kiwanuka recently spoke of his admiration for Adele - whom he toured with in 2011 - as he begins to gear up for the release of his debut album, 'Home Again'.
