Jack White to release debut solo album

White Stripes mainman Jack White has announced plans to release a solo album - and admitted the project came together after a musician never turned up to session with him.

White is due to release his first solo album 'Blunderbuss' in April this year, preceded by the release of the single 'Love Interruption' on February 7.

White told Radio 1's Zane Lowe last night (January 30) that the solo project gained momentum after a musician never turned up for a session - so they played some of White's solo material instead. He said:

"A few months ago, we had a session booked and someone didn't show up, so I said, 'I guess we'll do some of my songs'...It kickstarted the whole process."

White added that most of the material has been recently written due to his other his other previous commitments taking up his time. Speaking about the songs, he said:

"I only had a couple at first…when you're in The Dead Weather, all four of us wrote songs together in the same room, so I would never write songs on my own for that band."
