Man convicted of stalking Madonna on the loose

A man who was convicted of stalking Madonna in 1996 has escaped from a psychiatric hospital, it has been reported.

The L.A. Times say that police have confirmed that 54-year-old Robert Dewey Hoskins escaped from the Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, US on Friday (3 February).

Hoskins served a ten year sentence for stalking and threatening the Queen of Pop, before later being arrested again and sent to the psychiatric hospital.

At the original trial in 1996, Madonna spoke of how she often dreamed about Hoskins, who had tried to enter the singer's house and also threatened to kill her. Speaking at the trial about how she felt, she had said:

"Sick to my stomach. I feel incredibly disturbed that the man who repeatedly threatened my life is sitting across the room from me. I feel we are making his fantasies come true."
