P. Diddy set to launch own TV network

P. Diddy is set to follow in the footsteps of Oprah Winfrey by launching his own US TV network.

The hip-hop mogul announced on YouTube that Revolt, a music and news channel "influenced by the nonstop chatter of social networking," is expected to begin broadcasting next year:

The 42-year-old also revealed that the network will put the artists in charge: ‘Revolt is the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media.

“Revolt will be live, like all great moments in television history (and) immediate, like today’s social networks.”

Conceived alongside MTV veteran Andy Schuon, the channel is expected to include live performances, music videos, news and interviews, and is part of a government initiative to launch ten minority-owned networks over the next eight years.

Other famous figures involved in the deal, include NBA legend Magic Johnson, who will oversee the African-American entertainment channel, Aspire, and Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez, who will help create the Latin American network, El Rey.
