Katy Perry denies new single release is about Russell Brand

Katy Perry has denied that her new single 'Part of Me' is about former husband Russell Brand.

Speculation had been rife over the release of the song, which came out soon after the pair announced their impending divorce, due to its lyrics: "You can keep the diamond ring – it don't mean nothing anyway."

However, Perry told Access Hollywood that the song has been written for years and its release is more bad timing than anything. She said:

"I wrote 'Part of Me' two years ago and I always knew that 'Part of Me' was a special song. It feels like my life plays out with these songs. I feel like I'm in some kind of weird 'Truman Show' where I'm like, 'Why is this single appropriate now and it wouldn’t have been appropriate then?' It's just so crazy."

Perry added that she is "completely grateful" of her continued success. She said:

"I'm completely grateful because I know that not everything will always be this way. Maybe if I continue to make sure I'm doing everything with the right motives, then hopefully, chromatically it will go well. But I have to live it up while I'm still young - while I'm 27!"
