One Direction admit US success was unexpected

One Direction have revealed that their rise to fame in the US has taken them by surprise.

The 2010 X-Factor finalists, who last night attended the premiere of ‘Big Time Movie,’ the new feature film of current touring buddies Big Time Rush, admitted their success was unexpected during an interview with Vevo Lift.

Louis said: "It’s really surprising for us that we’d get like a good reception here in America because obviously we came off a UK TV show, we did the first music video here and all of a sudden, people started recognising us.”

Referring to their performance of ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ on the ITV series, Harry then added: “To think that we performed a Kelly Clarkson song on the show and then she wrote one of the songs [‘Tell Me A Lie’] on our album is pretty weird.”

The 18-year-old also claimed that their recent Best British Single win for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ at the BRIT Awards came as a complete shock:

“For us to be nominated in a category with Adele, Ed Sheeran and Jessie J, y’know, there’s some massive names in there and for us to be kind of considered amongst them was huge. So for us to win was just, y’know, unexpected. It was amazing.”
