Bruce Springsteen scores ninth number one album of career

Bruce Springsteen has scored the ninth number one album of his career with his 17th studio effort, ‘Wrecking Ball.’

The New Jersey singer-songwriter pipped Military Wives’ debut album, ‘In My Dreams,’ to the top spot to join the likes of The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and more recently, Madonna and Robbie Williams, as only the 10th act in UK chart history to achieve such a feat.

Last week’s chart-topper, Emeli Sande’s ‘Our Version Of Events’, slipped to number three, just ahead of Adele’s record-breaking ’21,’ and Ed Sheeran's '+.'

In a busy week for new entries, the Top 40 also saw debuts for Katie Melua's 'Secret Symphony,' Lionel Richie's 'Tuskegee,' Dry The River's 'Shallow Bed' and Gilbert O'Sullivan's 'The Very Best Of.'
