Gotye single becomes first half-million seller of 2012

Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has become the first single to sell over half a million copies in 2012 in the same week it reached number one for the fourth time.

The first release from his third album, ‘Making Mirrors,’ achieved the feat in its third consecutive week at the top spot, fending off stiff competition from Emeli Sande’s ‘Next To Me’ and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Starships.’

New girl-band Stooshe scored the highest new entry with Travie McCoy collaboration, ‘Love Me,’ reaching number five, while there were also debuts for Tinchy Stryder & Pixie Lott’s 'Bright Lights' at number seven and Marcus Collins’ cover of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ at number nine.

Elsewhere in the Top 40, Taio Cruz racked up another hit with 'Hangover' at number 34, while there were also climbs inside the Top 20 for Jay-Z & Kanye West's 'Paris,' Lil Wayne & Bruno Mars' 'Mirror,' LMFAO's 'Sexy & I Know It,' and David Guetta's 'Turn Me On.'
