Gotye has revealed that he was almost about to give up on his chart monster 'Somebody That I Used To Know'.

The musician has topped singles charts around the world with the track, but speaking to the BBC he admitted that he initially struggled to complete the song.

However, he "stuck with it" and the rest is history. He said:

"It was challenging to finish. I hit a brick wall after I hit the first chorus, and it took me a few weeks to decide if I should write the second verse from a female perspective. But I stuck with it, and I was really proud once it was finished."

Gotye also revealed a love of heavy metal when younger - playing drums along to the likes of complex prog band Dream Theater. He added:

"There's a certain strand of heavy metal that appeals to teenage boys because there's a purity, a mathematical quality. Playing it is almost athletic. You earn your stripes by the level of skill or speed you can attain."
