Mike Skinner admits dislike of The Streets' third album

Mike Skinner has admitted that his dislike of The Streets’ third album, ‘The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living.’

The 33-year-old, who last year announced he was disbanding the ‘Dry Your Eyes’ outfit, told The Guardian that he feels he let the pressures of fame misguide his judgement when asked about the critically-panned 2006 record:

"I was going through a big change, by being famous – and suddenly I got all this stuff that people rightfully would resent me for. I was kind of aware that I would have hated myself.

“My barometer was always, would I hate myself if I weren't Mike Skinner? When you write a song you always say to yourself, would I like this? So when you become really famous and stuff, the same question gets asked – would I like me? No, I wouldn't."

The Birmingham musician, who releases his autobiography, 'The Story Of The Streets,'  next week, also confessed that its tales of sex, drugs and money were an attempt to keep up the honesty he'd previously been praised for:

"Well, I think I wanted to come across as a bit of a twat, actually. I think I probably thought that bit of me had been under represented on A Grand Don't Come For Free. I felt like I'd painted myself as this sweet, downtrodden sort of thing.

“Really, what people got off on was the emotional detail that I got right. But at the time I was like, well, I've shown you everything that you could feel sympathetic about. So I was perfectly willing to portray all my bad side."
