Justin Bieber praises label signing Carly Rae Jepsen

Justin Bieber has revealed why he decided to make Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen his first signing to Schoolboy Records.

The ‘Baby’ hit-maker, who helps to run the label with manager Scooter Braun, appeared alongside Jepsen on The Ellen Show earlier today to explain how he became aware of the former Canadian Idol contestant.

He said: “I was in Canada and I was listening to the radio and then her song came on and I was like, ‘Who is this?'

"I looked her up and saw all the stuff she’s done and she's really talented! And she was available, so I signed her."

26-year-old Jepsen, who went onto perform her current single, 'Call Me Maybe,' had already released an album in her homeland back in 2008, but admitted that Bieber’s offer took her career to another level:

"I had never branched outside of Canada and had no idea how to do that and then one miraculous day, Justin called.

"At the time, I was touring in Canada in a soccer mom van with my band, and it seemed too good to be true."
