One Direction facing $1m lawsuit over name

One Direction are facing a $1 million lawsuit from an American band who share the same name.

Unfortunately for the British boys, there is already a band in the US called One Direction - and they're not happy about the confusion it is supposedly causing.

The Hollywood Reporter was told by the lawyer for US One Direction that the British band's team at Syco and Sony were aware of the problem when they applied for US trademarks - but they allegedly ignored the issue. Lawyer Peter Ross said:

"Rather than change their name or do anything to create confusion or avoid damage to our goodwill, they chose to press ahead and come on their tour."

He added: "We've been in negotiations for a month to find a resolution. In our view, the negotiations weren't turning out to be very productive."
