Paolo Nutini, Snow Patrol for Olympics opening ceremony

The likes of Paolo Nutini and Snow Patrol have been confirmed for the Olympic Games opening ceremony this summer.

They're joined by Duran Duran and Stereophonics as Britain launches the 2012 Games at London's Hyde Park on July 27.

The line-up takes a band from each country in Great Britain as the world's top athletes head to the country to ply their trade.

Speaking about the event, Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon said in a statement:

"Performing to so many people on the most exciting day in sport for Great Britain will be one of the highlights of the last decade for us. We have been invited to represent England for this Team GB show, and we couldn't be more proud. Seeing the torch being lit on the big screens before hitting the stage in this iconic location will be a great experience…we simply can't wait."
