Kate Bush triumphs over Adele at awards ceremony

Iconic singer Kate Bush triumphed at this afternoon's (May 1) South Bank Sky Arts Awards and took home a coveted prize.

She may have been up against vocal sensation Adele, but Bush's stunning album '50 Words for Snow' was given the Pop Award trophy over the 'Someone Like You' hitmaker's record-breaking album, '21'.

A press release on the star's official website details the ceremony, which was held today at The Dorchester hotel in central London, and explains that Bush was awarded the impressive title over some of the biggest current names in music:

"The Pop Music category was a female only affair for the first time in the prize’s history. Sir Tom Jones presented the award to Kate Bush who triumphed with '50 Words for Snow', her first album in six years. She saw off huge competition from Adele’s globally acclaimed '21' and PJ Harvey’s Mercury Prize winning album 'Let England Shake'."
