Lady Gaga's tea cup fetches £47,000 at auction

The tea cup that pop icon Lady Gaga auctioned off for a Japanese charity has raised a phenomenal amount of money.

The 'Marry The Night' superstar put the white and blue tea cup on Yahoo! Japan Auctions at the end of last month, and although bidding ended shortly after (on Sunday, May 6) it managed to raise an astounding £47,000.

The money raised will be donated to an organisation that finds funds for artists in Japan who suffered following the tsunami that hit the country back in March 2011 and want to study abroad.

Gaga is currently on her way to Tokyo, where she will perform 3 concerts as part of her Born This Way Ball tour, and tweeted a message to her Little Monsters earlier this morning (May 8) to let them know she was already on the plane:

"On my way to TOKYO!!! I'm so excited I'm gonna sit by the pilot on the planes and ask him to go faster!! *are we there yet* :))"
