Sir Elton John hospitalised due to respiratory infection, cancels live dates

Sir Elton John has been hospitalised in the USA after contracting a respiratory infection.

The iconic singer-songwriter was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles early yesterday (May 23) and doctors have ordered him not to perform for at least the next week.

Following this news, the 'Your Song' sensation has cancelled four upcoming concerts that were scheduled to take place at the Colosseum in Las Vegas, and he issued an official statement to TMZ about his current condition.

"It feels strange not to be able to perform these Million Dollar Piano concerts at the Colosseum. I love performing the show and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts."

Sir Elton John recently dedicated a performance of 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' to the late Bee Gees star Robin Gibb, who sadly passed away on May 20 after a battle with cancer. During the tribute, he explained:

"He fought a long battle with his cancer, and he fought it with dignity and humour. The Bee Gees were part of my life growing up and they were a huge influence on me."
