Lauryn Hill charged over failing to file tax returns

Lauryn Hill has been charged with failing to file income tax returns, it has emerged.

The BBC reports that court papers have been filed against the hip-hop star, who is said to have earned £1.03m in the three years she is said to have not paid tax.

US prosecutors have said that she failed to file tax returns between 2005 and 2007, in which most of her income came from music and film royalties.

Hill, who used to perform with the Fugees, has been given a court date of June 29.

It is said that if the singer fails to win her case, she could face prison time of three years and a fine of $300,000.
