Florence + The Machine cancel Benicassim performance due to vocal injury

Florence + The Machine have been forced to cancel their slot at this week's Benicassim festival.

The band were due to play the Spanish shindig on July 12 but singer Florence Welch has been ordered to rest following a vocal strain.

In a statement published by Benicassim's organisers, Welch is said to have done the damage whilst performing in Ireland. It reads:

"The English band Florence + The Machine have been regrettably forced to cancel part of their tour, including FIB 2012, due to an 'acute vocal strain causing swelling of the vocal cords' suffered by singer Florence Welch after a recent concert in Ireland. In the physician's report we have received from her doctor, it states that he has recommended her to rest until further notice."

The statement continues: "Given the sudden and unexpected illness suffered by Miss Welch, FIB 2012 organisation has been unable to find a substitute in such a small time frame. The Long Island-New York band De La Soul, will be playing in Florence + The Machine's slot at Main Stage on Thursday the 12th of July."
